Replace your battery, not your device

Save money over the long-term and help reduce environmental waste over disposable batteries by choosing long-life, premium-quality, reusable, rechargeable replacement batteries from subtel®.

If your device’s battery isn’t holding its charge like it used to, there’s no need to buy a completely new device. By simply exchanging the battery pack with a compatible new battery, you can bring your favourite electronic devices back to life - good as new for long-term use.

Modern replacement batteries like the ones we sell can also be higher-capacity, more powerful and with a longer lifespan than even the original batteries that came with your device - especially if they are from previous generations and use older battery cell technology.

It’s often very simple to replace the batteries of your electronic devices yourself (even opening up and replacing the batteries of smartphones or tablets). All you need is a compatible replacement battery pack, a few good tools and an online tutorial or YouTube video.

When should I replace my battery?

If your removable battery stops charging completely or begins to discharge abnormally fast, there is a high level of certainty that the battery will need to be changed.

But firstly, it’s best to rule out that the fault doesn’t lie with the charging cable you’re using. A faulty power cable may give the impression that there’s a battery problem - especially if your device fails to charge at all when plugged in. For this reason, test your device’s battery using another, compatible charger first before purchasing a new battery.

If in doubt, we recommend that you go to a professional repair shop and have your device checked to verify that it is the battery which needs changing.

What are the best rechargeable batteries?

When choosing which rechargeable battery packs to buy, first and foremost you should ensure that the batteries you are looking for are 100% compatible with your device. Look for the model number of your original battery and select a new battery that has compatibility with this type.

subtel® sells a wide variety of universal replacement batteries and lists all compatible devices for each one. Pay attention to this list to make sure you’re purchasing the correct replacement battery.

Purchasing higher quality battery cells is always recommended. Cheaper, lower-grade cells often do not contain the correct capacity as stated, will have shorter life spans and will leave you ultimately disappointed.

For this reason, buying batteries and powerpacks, from trustworthy companies, that comply with all European and International safety standards and have been tested for correct voltage and capacity is the best option for buying long-life, reliable rechargeable batteries that will hold their charge and can be recharged again and again over the long-term.

As specialists in high-quality rechargeable battery packs, all of our replacement batteries come with a 3-year guarantee.

What are the different types of batteries?

Whether you need a new replacement battery for your original battery pack or a spare battery / backup battery accu pack, it’s important to know the different types of battery cell technologies available, to see which one is right for you.

Firstly, a quick lesson on how batteries work. Simply put, batteries are accumulators composed of one or more electrochemical cells that transform stored chemical energy into electrical current.

Each battery cell contains a negative electrode (or anode) and a positive electrode (or cathode), as well as electrolytes that stimulate the movement of ions between the electrodes, allowing the generation of the current that powers electrical devices.

Progresses in technology are leading to ever-new and more efficient combinations of electrochemicals to generate current. That being said, here are the four most common types of battery cell used today:

What are alkaline batteries?

Alkaline batteries use potassium hydroxide (KOH) as their electrolyte, zinc (Zn) as the anode and manganese dioxide (MnO2) as the cathode. This type of battery is commonly used in the packs of disposable batteries you often see in shops. The cell is very stable and has a longer shelf life, meaning it can be stored for a long time without losing any of its capacity, but offer a shorter overall life span, especially if they are non-rechargeable.

What are Nickel-Cadmium batteries (Ni-Cd)?

Nickel-Cadmium batteries use potassium hydroxide (KOH) as their electrolyte, nickel (III) hydroxide (Ni(OH)3) as the cathode and cadmium (Cd) as the anode. Whilst NiCD batteries offer excellent performance as rechargeable batteries, they have many disadvantages over newer technologies. These include a high memory effect - where the battery capacity and lifespan is diminished through incomplete charging - and the fact that cadmium is a serious environmental pollutant.

What are Nickel–Metal Hydride batteries (Ni-MH)?

Nickel–Metal Hydride batteries use nickel oxyhydroxide (NiOOH) as the anode and a metal hydride alloy as the cathode. NiMH batteries offer a higher charge capacity and a reduced memory effect compared to Ni-Cd batteries. Due to the fact that they do not use cadmium, Ni-MH batteries are considered environmentally friendly.

What are Lithium-ion batteries (Li-Ion)?

Lithium-ion batteries use a lithium salt as their electrolyte, lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2) as the cathode and carbon/graphite as the anode. Li-Ion batteries offer very high discharge and charge efficiency, making them excellent long-life rechargeable batteries which offer large numbers of charging cycles. A benefit of Lithium-ion batteries is that they are low maintenance - meaning less attention needs to be paid to how fully a battery is recharged during each charging cycle.

How do I make rechargeable batteries last longer?

Taking proper care of your chargeable batteries can increase their lifespan, maintain their performance and, ultimately, save you money in the long run.

Firstly, battery technology is moving fast and a lot of the old tips about improving rechargeable battery life no longer ring true for all battery types when you make one key change: invest in a good quality, modern rechargeable battery charger.

Intelligent, ‘Smart’ chargers are microprocessor-controlled, meaning that special attention is paid to the condition, level of charge and cell technology each battery being charged - all automatically. The result is a ‘gentle charge’ that avoids over-charging or under-charging batteries (something that might decrease their efficiency and lifespan). Intelligent battery chargers often also allow you to charge different battery sizes and cell types at the same time (e.g. Ni-MH and Li batteries together), something that previously could’ve been harmful to the longterm condition of your batteries.

Smart battery chargers also offer overload protection, reverse polarity protection, overheating protection, automatic switch-off and faulty cell protection.

subtel® sell a wide variety of high-quality, modern and reliable battery smart chargers for all leading battery sizes and types - perfect for maintaining your rechargeable batteries for the long term.

Tip: hot temperatures and temperature fluctuations can decrease the capacity of your batteries - especially Li batteries. Be careful not to leave laptops, smartphones or even your GPS devices in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.

Reliable power when you need it
